Lifelong Lusk resident dies in traffic accident on I-80

A longtime Lusk resident, Frank Kuhn, was killed in an accident Sunday night about 35 miles east of Rock Springs on Interstate 80.

Kuhn, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene after his pickup truck struck a concrete barrier and a tractor-trailer truck, and then rolled down an embankment about 11 p.m. The driver of the other truck was not injured.

The Wyoming Highway patrol reported that Kuhn's 1970 GMC pickup swerved to the right and struck a concrete construction barrier about seven miles east of Point of Rocks. The pickup then swerved to the left and struck a 1975 Kenworth semi driven by Robert Edens, 53, of Salem, OR. Both vehicles were westbound on I-80.

The force of the impact caused Kuhn's pickup to go into a broadside slide, crossing the roadway and rolling two and one half times over an embankment, coming to rest on its top.

State Patrolman Phil Browder said Kuhn was apparently pinned in the wreckage and died shortly after being removed from the vehicle.

Born and raised in Lusk, Kuhn had moved to Rock Springs about three months ago. He and his wife formerly operated Kuhn Equipment in Lusk.

A Mass of Resurrection will be said for Kuhn at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lusk with burial to follow in the Lusk Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Peet Mortuary Chapel.

A complete obituary will appear next week.
