Herman Leeling Last Rites Held

Funeral services were held Saturday for Herman Leeling, 75, who died in Evanston March 21 following a lingering illness.

Services were conducted from the Peet Chapel with the Rev. J. Wesley Libb of the Manville Community Church officiating. Burial was in the Kirtley Cemetery.

Mrs. Edna DeCastro was the organist and Mrs. Lyle Eddy, Mrs. Everson Bonner, Dan Christian and Harry Lyon sang, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Beautiful Isle".

Pallbearers were: John Hammond, Bob Fancher, Lynard Gladson, Antone Hytrek, Elmer Fleming, Harry Sides and Lloyd Tschacher.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Orval Dryer, Art Rathbun, A. R. Knudsen, Paul Sullivan, Walt Van Horn, Harley Lohr, Ray Christian, George Mundschenk, Art Thompson, Roy ZumBrunnen and Sam Thomas.

Herman Sebastion Leeling was born in Sioux County, Neb., February 23, 1889, the son of Samuel J. and Hannah Leeling. He attended public schools in Sioux County until his parents moved to a farm in the Kirtley Community where he later filed on a homestead of his own.

January 31, 1916, he and Cora Mae Swope were married at Harrison. They were the parents of eight children. Their oldest daughter, Annabelle died in 1919.

Most of his life was spent in Sioux County and the Kirtley Community. In 1941 the family moved to Flattop and resided there until 1944 when they bought a home in Manville where they have resided since. Besides farming he has worked at Lance Creek and for the Town of Lusk. He enjoyed playing his fiddle and played for many country dances.

He is survived by his wife, Cora; four sons, Leonard of Crawford, Allen of Manville, Warren of Scottsbluff and Herman Jr. of Douglas; three daughters, Mrs. Cleo Petersen of Harrison, Mrs. Edna Outhouse of Lusk and Mrs. Margarett Heine of Manville; three sisters, Mrs. Caroline Thayer of Harrison, Mrs. Anna Grant of Chadron and Mrs. Elsie Lewis of Lusk; and 20 grandchildren.
