Funeral Notice, Elden Lewis

Services for Elden Lewis, 60, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 at Peet Mortuary in Lusk, with burial following in Lusk Cemetery. Mr. Lewis died Saturday, March 24 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

Memorial may be made to the Niobrara Memorial Nursing Home.

Elden Lee Lewis


Elden Lee Lewis was born May 10, 1923 near Harrison, Nebr. to Thomas Lee Lewis and Elsie Nora Leeling. He attended school in Nebraska until 1939 when the family moved to a ranch near Lusk.

After several years of school in Lusk, he helped his father on the ranch until entering the service in 1944.

He married Fern Long July 1, 1944. After returning from the service he was employed by Midwest Skelgas. He was a delivery and repair man with that business until it was sold.

He died March 24, 1984 at the V.A. Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., after spending three weeks in the Veterans Hospital in Hot Springs, S. Dak.

He is survived by his former wife, Fern of Lusk; two sons, Ernest Lee of Lusk and Chad of Green River; two daughters , Elsie Martin of Gillette and Tresa Volney of Williston, N. Dak.; one brother Henry Lewis of Lusk; two sisters, Evelyn Larson of Lusk and Katherine Brewster of Ten Sleep, and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents and two grandchildren.

Services were conducted at Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk, March 28 by Rev. Roy Howell.

Music was provided by Minerva Watson, organist, and Joy Kaltenheuser, who sang "One Day at a Time" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Active pallbearers were Noel Larson, Terry Larson, Logan Brewster, Bill Haworth, Charles Lund and Allen Leeling.

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Coffee was served at the Elks Lodge.

Memorials to the Niobrara County Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements were by Peet Mortuary.
