Wanda M. Lorenzen

A memorial service for longtime Lusk resident Wanda M. Lorenzen, 74, was held at the Congregational Church, Jan. 3, 2004. She died Dec. 27, 2003, in Fort Collins, Colo.

She was born April 30, 1929, in Grafton, Neb., to Robert and Dora Glee Linville.

She graduated from Lusk High School in1946. She then served as secretary for the County Agent and was later employed as a receptionist at the Spencer Hospital.

She married David Lorenzen on Oct. 27, 1949, at the Congregational Church in Lusk.

She ran an insurance agency in Lusk with her husband for many years.

Her love for life was evident in many ways and she lived it to the fullest each day. Her gifts were abundant and included story telling and writing, quilting and painting. She learned to play the piano at age 40.

She was known for her beautiful flowers and garden, and enjoyed the many hours she spent there. She always looked forward to the travels abroad with her friends.

Her generosity and willingness to always help included involvement in the Lusk Hospital, the PEO, the Greenbelt project and many community projects from painting fire hydrants to planting trees.

She was church treasurer for many years at the Congregational Church and was currently a deacon there. She cherished her activities and time spent with the quilting Bag Ladies.

The project that held a special place for her was the Niobrara Library County Library Foundation.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave and a brother, Dean.

She is survived by two sons, Dick Lorenzen of Fort Collins, and Tom Lorenzen of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; brothers, Robert Linville of Cody and Galen Linville of Kentucky; a sister, Sharon Mangus of Glenrock; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Niobrara County Library Foundation or the Congregational Church Memorial Fund.
