John Lorenzen, Lifelong Resident, Dies; Services Monday

Funeral service for John B. Lorenzen who died December 30 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Peet Chapel.

Officiating at the service was the Reverend Robert Boutwell of the Congregational Church. Tim Johnson, soloist, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me," accompanied by organist, Mr. J. P. Watson. Masonic rites were performed at the gravesite in the Lusk Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Leonard Fulk, Jake Davies, Noel Larson, Don Taylor, Lafe Culver and Nick Kaan.

John B. Lorenzen was born July 3, 1903, about nine miles northeast of Lusk. He was a life long resident of Niobrara County. His family moved to a homestead ranch north of Lusk and lived there until John was 20 when the family moved to Lusk. He attended school in Lusk, and learned his trade as a mechanic at a school in Kansas City. When he returned to Lusk he worked for George Held at the Hiway Garage.

In May, 1927, He married Doris Belden at the Methodist Church in Cheyenne. In 1943 John and Vic Senters bought the Hiway Service Station and he was in that business with his son, David until he retired in 1967.

John had served on the local draft board, was a member of the school board for several years and lately had taken a great interest in the Lusk Museum. He was affiliated with the Harmony Lodge No. 24 A. F. and A. M. and was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Wyoming Consistory. He was also a member of Chapter 26, Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are his wife, Doris, a daughter Mrs. Jim (Joan) Winfield, Casper, two sons, Edward, Riverton and David, Lusk, a sister Mrs. Victor (Effie) Senters and 8 grandchildren. His parents George and Clara Lorenzen, a brother Jurdgen, a sister Emily and a granddaughter Doris died previously.
