Marjorie Zerbst Marchant

Funeral serviced for Marjorie Zerbst Marchant, age 81, were held Saturday, March 19, at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk with Rev. Frank Bozart officiating.

Mrs. Marchant died, March 16, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyo., after suffering a stroke at her home on March 8 of this year.

Mrs. Marchant has been a resident of Niobrara County her entire life. She was born September 19, 1911, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Charles Richard and Helen Julia Gieseleman Zerbst.

Her father and mother homesteaded north of Lusk, where they raised livestock. She also had two brothers, James Edward and William Richard who preceded her in death.

Marjorie graduated from Lusk High School in 1930. She attended Spearfish College for two years and received her teaching certificate. Over the years she taught rural school at Seven Mile, Indian Creek and Prell.

In 1931 she married Patrick Henry Marchant. Their first home was a log cabin on Boggy Creek. Later they built a new home and continued to ranch, raising both cattle and sheep. Marjorie and Patrick lived their entire lives on the ranch and raised one son, Jack William.

Mrs. Marchant was a skilled writer and craftswoman. She exhibited her crochet and knit creations at the county fair for many years and won numerous awards.

She leaves a host of loyal friends and family members.

Mrs. Marchant was preceded in death by her husband Patrick Henry.

Survivors include her son, Jack William of the family ranch; grandchildren Jay Dee and wife, Laura Ilene Morgan Marchant of Hot Springs, S.D.; and Lou Anne Marchant Rogerson and husband, John Albert Rogerson III of Keller, Texas; great-granddaughter; and Melody Minta Marchant; nieces and nephews, James Zerbst, Ruthie Zerbst Spence, Bob Zerbst, Glen Zerbst, Leonard Zerbst and Irma Zerbst Wasserburger.

Bader Funeral Home of Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
