James M. Meng

Services for James M. Meng will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 1992, at Bader-Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.

Meng died at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital on Monday, Sept. 28, 1992, from emphysema and leukemia. He was born April 23, 1920, in the log home on the family ranch in the Red Bird community, the son of Hans Meng and Hazel May (Jones) Meng. He attended rural school near his home and graduated from Lusk High School in 1940.

After graduation, he worked in defense steel construction and was later inducted into the Navy in January 1944. He served in the Pacific and was discharged in May 1946. On May 10, 1946, he married Melva Barry in Ardmore, Okla. He managed the Railway Express Agency in Lusk for a year and then returned to steel construction work until February 1952 when he returned to the family ranch where he made his home until his death.

Meng enjoyed his cattle and ranch life and his service to the community as a member of the Niobrara Electric association board of directors. He looked forward every year to the high school sports seasons to watch his granddaughters participate and grandson play little league baseball. He also enjoyed and supported the 4-H program and was a member of Stockgrowers and the Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, son Jim and his wife, Debbie; two granddaughters, Kresta and Kara and one grandson, Ryan, all of the family ranch; a sister, Helen Freeman of Mills, Wyo. and many other relatives.

For those who wish, memorials to the Niobrara Memorial Hospital in Lusk would be appreciated.
