Local People Attend Funeral Service of Harry L. Avenell

Funeral services for Harry L. Avenell, 76, of Story, Wyo., who died July 2 at the Eventide Nursing Home in Sheridan, were held Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the Holy Name Church in Sheridan. Burial was at the Custer Battlefield National Cemetery.

Mr. Avenell was born Feb. 3, 1891 in Solomon County, Iowa. In 1916 he moved to Niobrara County, Wyo., where he homesteaded. He served in World War I from July 21, 1917, until Feb. 5, 1919.

On April 28, 1923, he married Beatrice Ruffing at Hot Springs, S. D. They ranched there until he retired in 1958 and moved to Story.

Mr. Avenell was a member of Elks Lodge of Sheridan and the local American Legion post. He transferred to the Sheridan American Legion Post from the Perry Strickland Post of Edgemont, S. D. He was a member of the Holy Name Catholic church.

He is survived by his widow, Beatrice, of Story; three sisters, Elsie Huddleston of Crofton, Neb., Edna Sage of Crofton, and Lola Bruner of Sac City, Iowa; and one brother, Chester, of Crofton.

Erny, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ruffing and Sherry, Hyattville; and Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Jones of Casper.
