Leo C. Matthews

Rev. Alan Bean of the Community Baptist Church of Glenrock officiated at the funeral services for former Manville resident and oil field worker at Lance Creek, Leo C. Matthews on Saturday, October 1, 1988.

Matthews, 68, died September 28, 1988 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper following a short illness. He was born June 12, 1920 in Portsmouth, VA to Wilbur and Dorothy (Tamlin) Matthews. He was reared and educated in Oceanside, CA.

He served in the Air Force during World War II and following his discharge he was employed in Jensen, UT. On May 2, 1947, he married Jean Miller of Hat Creek. Matthews worked in the oil fields at Lance Creek, Riverton and Thermopolis and has lived in Glenrock for the past four years.

He was a member of the Malta Masonic Lodge No. 17, A.F. and A.M.; Knights Templar of Thermopolis; Kalif Shrine of Sheridan; The Community Baptist Church and the Glenrock VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Terry of Glenrock, Troy of Byron and Tom of San Diego; one daughter, Sandra Steffan of Billings, MT; one brother, Wilbur Matthews of Stockton, CA; two sisters, Dorothy Meade of Stockton, CA and Grace Ruggerio of Daytona Beach, FL and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Tim; one brother, Harold and one sister, Jean Snow.

Burial was in the Glenrock Cemetery with the Glenrock Masonic Lodge #22 conducting the Masonic graveside services. Memorials to the Shriner's Hospital for crippled children in Salt Lake City, UT would be appreciated by the family.
