Harlan McKelvey Dies Friday
Harlan Scott McKelvey, 52, of the Van Tassell community died Friday at St. Mary Hospital in Scottsbluff. Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel in Lusk Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Bolinger of the First Baptist Church officiating.
Mrs. J.P. Watson furnished organ music and accompanied Mrs. A.F. DeCastro and Mrs. Dean Glandt as they sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."
Casket bearers were Dale Jordan, Keith Zimmerman, Robert York, Dale Miller, Harry Baldwin and Dale Bittle. Honorary bearers were Harry Baldwin Sr., Ed Redifer, Otto York, Harry Zimmerman, Lawrence Adams and Lawrence Heller.
Mr. McKelvey was born July 21, 1915, to Edward and Edna McKelvey of Van Tassell. He was reared on a ranch near Van Tassell and attended the school at Van Tassell.
He married Bernice G. DeKay of Harrison, November 20, 1936. They were the parents of five sons and one daughter.
His parents and three sons died previously.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald of Billings. Mont., Don of Laramie, Wyo.; one daughter, Lynnet of Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Ralph of Lusk, John of Casper, Wyo., Mike of Torrington, Wyo.; two sisters, Mrs. Mahlon (Bessie) Peterson of the Prairie Center, Mrs. Pat Carlson of Powder River, Wyo.; and two granddaughters.
Mr. McKelvey spent his entire life in the Van Tassell community and was engaged in the ranching business.
