Beulah Louise Keys Norris

Services for Beulah Louise Keys Norris, age 82, were held at 10 am Saturday, Nov. 17, 1990, in the Peet Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Allen Kallenbach officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.

Norris died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 1990, at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital in Lusk. She was born Oct. 11, 1908, on Beaver Creek, east of Newcastle to Isabell Smith Keys and Lee Roy Keys. She attended school at the Beaver Creek School and attended Newcastle High School where she stayed and worked for different families while attending high school.

She began her teaching career in 1926 at the Beaver Creek School. She also taught school in Cheyenne River, Upton, Mule Creek Junction, Manville and Lusk. She taught school in Lusk for 25 years with 20 of those years spent as a fifth grade teacher.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association in Lusk. She was also honored recently by the Niobrara County Alumni Association at the annual alumni banquet in July.

Her favorite past time was her students and sports. She enjoyed every sporting event that Lusk took part in, cheering the Lusk Tigers on. She married Sterling C. Norris on Sept. 19, 1938, in Custer, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne Larsen of Rapid City, S.D.; three sons, Ernest Norris of Northridge, Calif.; Jim Norris of Bismark, N, D.; and Bob Norris of Seattle, Wash.; 14 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous close friends and relatives.

A Beulah Norris memorial has been established at the Lusk State Bank to be used for a scholarship fund.

Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
