Harry F. Overman

Graveside services for Harry F. Overman, 85, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 25, 1995, at Valley View Cemetery in Torrington. Mr. Overman died at the Platte County Nursing Home in Wheatland, Wyoming, on August 21, 1995.

He was born December 14, 1909, in Nodaway County, Missouri the son of John Q. and Montana (Rush) Overman. He attended school at Parnell, Mo. He and Goldie Force were married on May 10, 1927, at Albany, Mo. They had five children. They farmed in Missouri and Iowa until moving to a homestead north of Lance Creek, Wyoming, in 1933. He also worked the Hogan and O'Shea Ranches building fences. He later worked for Continental Oil Company as a pumper. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII where he was a tail gunner. He returned to work for Continental after his discharge and retired in 1975. He married Zola Dayton on December 23, 1949. They lived in Lance Creek, Lynch and Sussex, Wyo.; Rangley, Colo.; and in New Mexico. They spent retirement years in Manville, Wyo., until 1980 when they moved to Torrington.

He loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved hunting, fishing and his Air Force picture book, which few people didn't view when visiting him.

He is survived by his wife, Zola, in Wheatland; four daughters - Frances M. Dodson and Vergie L. Overman, both of Torrington; Norma J. Neifert of Lingle, Wyo.; and Marilyn Jo Adkins of Sutherland, Nebraska; a son - Harvey J. Overman of Big Horn, Wyo.; three step-children - Donna Yeadon and Raymond Dayton, both of Wheatland; and Harold Howard in Louisiana; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, two grandsons and one step-son.
