Local Residents Saddened by Death of Relative in Iowa; Go to Attend Funeral Services

Relatives here were saddened upon receipt of a message last Sunday telling of the death of Mrs. Gustav Owens at Mapleton, Ia., that day. The deceased woman's husband, Gustav Owens, formerly resided in this county, and is known to many local residents. He left here a number of years ago and has lived at Mapleton since. Mr. Owens is a brother of Andrew and P. J. Owens, Mrs. Otto Klemke and Mrs. Wm. Intveen.

Mrs. Klemke, Mrs. Pete Owens and Mr. and Mrs. Intveen left here early Monday in order to attend funeral services. Condolences are extended to the bereaved by their many friends.


Mrs. Gus Owens Buried Tuesday

Funeral Services Held in Ute Lutheran Church for 22-Year-Old Mother

Funeral services for Mrs. Gus A. Owens, 22 years old, who died Sunday in the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City of meningitis, were held Tuesday afternoon in the Lutheran church at Ute with Rev. Kroge, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment was in St. Clair cemetery.

Esther Ackelbein Owens, daughter if Mr. and Mrs. Ackelbein of Charter Oak, was born August 1, 1909. In July 1927, she was married to Gus Owens, son of Mr. and Mrs. V.P. Owens of Mapleton, and since that time has resided on a farm 6 miles south of Mapleton.

She leaves to mourn her death her widower, two children, Gordon and Beverly, her parents and many other relatives and friends. One son preceded her in death last January.

Hugo Owens of the Mapleton post office is a brother-in-law.
