Former Resident Mrs. Hugo Payne Dies October 4

Mrs. Hugo (Edna Myrtle) Payne, 84, died October 4 in the Halstead Nursing Center in Halstead, Kan. Funeral services was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Peterson Funeral Home in Newton, Kans., conducted by the Rev. Fred Spinder. The remains were sent to Douglas where graveside service was held Monday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Clark of the Douglas Methodist Church.

Mrs. Payne was born May 16, 1888 in South Dakota. The family moved to Nebraska where she spent her early life. She came to Wyoming during the Lance Creek oil boom. For many years she made her home in Lusk and was married to the late Hugo F. Payne prominent businessman.

Mrs. Payne was a member of the Congregational Church and the Royal Valley Ladies Club. She was active in the Lusk Rebekah Lodge No. 12 and a member of the Past Noble Grand Club.

In 1955 they moved to Costa Mesa, Calif. after Mr. Payne's retirement. Mr. Payne died in November 1961 and Mrs. Payne continued to make her home in Costa Mesa with her son James Tenney and Mrs. Tenney. In 1957 she moved to Salem, Mo. to make her home with a daughter Mrs. Don (Alyce) Glover and Mr. Glover. For the past three years she was in the Halstead Nursing Center.

Survivors include Mr. Tenney now of Arlington, Texas, Mrs. Glover and two granddaughters, Mrs. Thomas Boone of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Mrs. Willie Burger of Newton, Kans.; seven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Ann Vickory of Douglas and Mrs. Pearl Johnson of Orchard, Neb.
