Ray Reed

Long-time Lance Creek rancher Ray Reed died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1985, in Lusk. He was 77.

Mr. Reed was born May 9, 1908, in Harrison, Neb., the son of Walter C. and Effie Stevens Reed. The family lived for a time in Idaho and then returned to Wyoming. He attended his first two years of high school in Lost Springs, where he coached a girls' basketball team. He was active in basketball, football and track at Douglas High School before graduating in 1926. He was awarded several honors in athletics. He was baptized in the Congregational Church in Douglas in 1926.

He married Bernice J. Haworth June 18, 1929, in Lusk. They made their home on the 77 Ranch since purchasing it in 1948. He was a member of The Wyoming Stockgrowers Association and was a charter member of the Elks Lodge in Lusk.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Lance Creek; a son, Bud of Lance Creek; a daughter, Jean Watson of Lusk; two grandsons, Don and Troy Watson of Lusk; a granddaughter, Judy Herz of Casper; one great-granddaughter, Heidi Herz, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Walter, Jim and Asa, and one sister, Frankie Hern.

Memorial services were held Monday, Oct. 14, at the Congregational Church in Lusk. The Rev. Frank Blish officiated. Burial was in Lusk Cemetery.
