Evelyn Ruby Rising
Funeral services for Evelyn Ruby Rising, 73 of Crawford, Neb. were held Aug. 21, 2003, at the Christ Community Church in Crawford, with Rev. Mincks officiating.
Ruby Rising died Aug, 17, 2003, at the Chadron Community Hospital.
She was born Sept. 5, 1929, to Erwin Henry and Dora Evelyn Wood at Thermopolis, Wyo. She grew up in Crawford and graduated from Crawford High School in 1947.
She married Robert W. Lucas in 1947. They had two daughters, Sharon Ritterbush of Hot Springs, S.D., and Diana Hegeman of Chadron, Neb.
On May 15, 1953, she married Marvin Dale Rising in Gering Neb. He had three children, Glee Zimmer of Morrill, Neb., Gwen Raben of Crawford, and Dale Rising of Lusk, and a stepson, Gary Mitchell of Belmont, Neb. Ruby and Marvin had three more children, Lurry "Skeet" Rising of Crawford, Kathy Smith of Ellsworth, Kan., and Vicki Gilliam of Crawford.
The couple made their home in Crawford for 50 years. Ruby and Marvin owned and operated Rising Trucking for 36 years. They also owned Marv's Bar for 20 years.
Ruby was a charter member and active officer for many years in the Crawford Eagles Club. She enjoyed people and operating the bar for many years. She also enjoyed a great love for bowling. Her happiest times were at family gatherings, especially at Christmas.
Survivors include two sons, Dale and Skeet; five daughters, Glee, Gwen, Sharon, Diana, Kathy and Vicki; stepson Gary Mitchell; one sister Dorothy Hamilton; 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one granddaughter, AnDee Smith; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Neidert and Braxton Dale Rising.
