Esther (Mrs. Herbert) Sabin, long-time Niobrara resident, died in Ft. Collins last Thursday after a short illness.
The Sabins lived on a ranch in the Node area for 50 years before retiring and moving to Lusk. The past year they have lived in Fort Collins.
Mrs. Sabin was actively involved in community affairs while she was a resident here. She was a member of the Node Homemakers Club and the Congregational Church in Lusk. She enjoyed exhibiting homemaking and craft displays at the county, state and regional fairs.
Esther Waybright Sabin was born May 18, 1897, at Ashland, Neb., the daughter of Albert and Josephine Waybright. She grew up and had her early schooling in the Ashland and Sanders County schools. After a year in Peru State College she taught in a rural school, then enrolled in the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she graduated with a degree in education. She taught Mathematics and domestic science in the Grand Island, Neb., schools.
On June 6, 1928, she and Herbert E. Sabin of Node were married. They resided on the ranch at Node for nearly fifty years before retiring and moving to Lusk.
Memorial service was conducted here at Peet Mortuary Chapel Sunday with the Rev. Frank Bozart officiating. Edna DeCastro was organist and James Willson sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond The Sunset."
Memorials have been established to the Congregational Church and Niobrara County Senior Center.
Interment will be in the family plot in the Lusk Cemetery following cremation.
She is survived by her husband Herbert, a daughter Mary Shoop of Ft. Collins, a son Samuel of Ithica, N.Y., eight grandchildren, two brothers, John of Wessington Springs, S.D., and Ralph of Lincoln, Neb.
