Arthur J. Scheer
Funeral services for Arthur J. Scheer, 83, will be held Thursday, July 9, 1992, at 10 a.m. at The Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Goshen Community Health Services for home health care equipment. Scheer died at Community Hospital July 5, 1992, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 30, 1908, in Kingfisher, Okla., the son of Louie H. and Rosa (Bartman) Scheer. At the age of five he moved with his mother, sister Irene and brother Louie to a farm five miles west of Jay Em, Wyo., to join his father and brother George who had homesteaded there in 1913.
He received his schooling in several one room schools in that area. He quit school early to help out on the family farm. He later owned and operated a livestock hauling service and also hauled rock for the Jay Em Stone Company.
He married Edna Roose on April 4, 1959, in Lusk, Wyo. Edna died in 1980. In the later 1950s and 1960s he worked for Kilmer Dairy and the Holly Sugar Corporation as well as operating a small ranching business. On Dec. 1, 1972, he broke his leg in a fall from a horse. After a lengthy recovery he retired.
He is survived by a companion, June Clingman of Torrington; three daughters from his first marriage, Arbonna Davis of Lakewood, Colo., Nadine Page of Torrington and Linda Nichol of Lingle, Wyo. From his marriage to his second wife, Edna, he is survived by a son, James Scheer of Torrington, a stepson, Dr. Jerry Baker of Gillette; and brother, Louie Scheer of LaGrange, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and an infant daughter.
Friends may call at the Colyer Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. and at the service.
