Ralph Schloatman Dies March 15 Burial at Jay Em

Funeral service was held Saturday, March 18, at Brush, Colo., for Ralph S. Schloatman, 58, who died suddenly of a heart attack March 15. Graveside service and burial was at the Jay Em Cemetery Saturday.

Ralph Samuel Schloatman the son of Lewis and Grace Schloatman was born in Lincoln County, Neb., July 6, 1913. He received his schooling at Arnold, Neb., and graduated from the Arnold High School.

As a young man he moved to Lusk and entered into work as a chef, the trade he followed the rest of his life. Schloatman built the Fireside Inn and ran it for several years before moving to Colorado.

He was inducted into the United States Navy in April 1943. He became Chief Commissary Officer, serving with General Eisenhower at the Normandy Invasion and other European engagements. He received the World War II Victory Medal, The American Area Medal and the European African Middle East Medal.

In 1961 he married Esther Vondra Schnorenberg. In 1965 they moved to Morgan County, Colo., where he has been employed as a chef.

Survivors include his widow, one stepson Bernie Schnorenberg with the U.S. Navy, his mother Mrs. Grace Morse, Arnold, Neb., three brothers, Laurence, Torrington, Francis, Chadron, and Kenneth, Cozad, Neb., and three grandchildren. His father, a stepdaughter, and one brother Lester died previously.
