Neely Jean Sellers

Five-year-old Neely Jean Sellers, daughter of Darnell and Marty Sellers of Lusk, died at Children's Hospital in Denver last Thursday.

She was an apparent victim of Reyes Syndrome, a condition apparently triggered in this instance by a case of chicken pox (see separate story).

Neely became ill early last week and was admitted to Niobrara County Memorial Hospital of Tuesday. Later the same day, during a severe snow storm, she was transferred by ambulance to West Nebraska General Hospital in Scottsbluff.

The next morning, she was airlifted to Denver in an air ambulance furnished by Children's Hospital.

The Sellers family moved to Lusk in September, and Neely was a kindergarten pupil at Lusk Grade School. A native of Ft. Worth, Texas, she loved horses, the outdoors and Bible stories. She was a member of the Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Ft. Worth.

Her father is employed on the Ron and Keni Cundall ranch south of Lusk.

In addition to her parents, Neely is survived by four sisters, Dannitta, Karie, Kimberly and Stephanie, all of Ft. Worth; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Enix of Glen Rose, Texas; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Conley of Ft. Worth and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sellers of Oklahoma City, Okla.; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Williams of Ft. Worth, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Sparks of Evant, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Carson Sellers of Hamilton, Texas, Mrs. Iris Crabtree of Gadly, Texas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other relatives.

The Rev. Ed Peacock officiated at a Monday service at Peet Mortuary.

The organist was Esther Bozart and songs were "My Lord Keeps a Record," "Calvary Mountain" and "Jesus is the One."

Burial was at Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Glen and Johnny Conley, Don Enix and David Applegate.
