James Edward Serres

The Prayer Vigil for James Edward Serres, age 66, will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk with Rev. Patrick Shea officiating. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 13, at the Church of Nativity in Harrison, Neb., with Rev. Robert F. Chamberlain officiating. Burial will follow in the Montrose Cemetery north of Harrison.

Mr. Serres died Sunday evening, January 9, at Community Hospital in Torrington, Wyo. He was born September 4, 1927, in Crawford, Neb., the son of Edward and Leona Serres. He attended grade school in District 9 and attended Sioux County High School in Harrison, Neb.

After serving with the U. S. Marine Corp., he returned to Nebraska. In January of 1955 he married Veneda Wallace in Harrison, Neb. Soon after their marriage they purchased their ranch east of Lusk and remained there until 1982. Mr. Serres then worked at several jobs including working for Elmer Hoff at Lance Creek. Mr. Serres had been in failing health since 1982 and remained in the Lusk area until the time of his death.

Mr. Serres was a member of the V.F.W. in Harrison, Neb. He especially enjoyed raising registered Quarter Horses and he also loved rodeos.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth Serres, his step-mother, Martilda and a nephew Chuck Pilgrim.

Survivors include his former wife, Veneda of Torrington, Wyo., 3 sons, Andrew W., Cody, Wyo.; Edward J. and Eric C. both of Lance Creek, Wyo.; 2 daughters, Michelle L. and Melody M. both of Torrington, Wyo.; one brother, Robert L. of Lusk, Wyo.; 3 sisters LaVonne Pilgrim of Gillette, Wyo.; Elizabeth Howland and Cynthia Lay both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson. Memorials to the American Lung Association will be appreciated by the family.

Bader Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
