Funeral services for Irene A. Shane, 88, were June 20 at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk with the Rev. Delbert Dick officiating.
Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery. Memorials are to the Niobrara County Nursing Home or the Lusk Senior Center.
She died June 17, 1997, at the Niobrara County Nursing Home in Lusk.
She was born July 16, 1908, at Hubbell, Neb., to Henry F. and Emma Schroeder Buchmeier. She was married Feb. 15, 1928, at Beatrice, Neb., to James C. Shane.
They farmed near Fairbury, Neb., and near Onaga, Kan., before moving to Wyoming in 1935.
They worked for Herbert Sabin of Node and later bought the Ed Thompson ranch near Node. They lived there until 1957 when they turned the ranch over to their son Jimmy and moved into Lusk.
She was active for many years as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Node Homemakers from 1938 until she moved into the nursing home in 1995. She served on the advisory board and the board of directors for many years. She also did volunteer work in the thrift shop and set tables, as well as helping with bazaars and other fund raising events. Both Irene and Jim were avid fans of Lusk school sports.
Survivors include one son Jimmy and wife Carmen of Node; daughters Patty Showalter and husband Jack of Douglas and Bonnie DesEnfants and husband Billy of Torrington; sister Marguerite Bower and sister-in-law, Lela Rohrbaugh, both of Fairbury, Neb.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
Bader Funeral Home of Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
