Earl Sides Dies Sunday While on Trip to California

Earl Sides, 57, of Lusk died of a heart attack Sunday morning in Williams, Arizona. The attack came at a time that he and Mrs. Sides were on their way to visit a daughter, Mrs. Jud Schaefer of Burbank, Calif.

Funeral arrangement has not yet been announced but will be held in Lusk with interment being made In the Lusk Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Schaefer of Burbank, Calif. and Mrs. Earl Martin of Casper and three sons, Earl of Kimball, Nebr., Robert and James of Lusk; his mother, Mrs. Ruby Sides of Lusk, four sisters, Mrs. Tom McCullough, Ray, S.D.; Mrs. Robert Hardman and Mrs. Robert Gay, of Lusk and Mrs. Jim Groves of Lance Creek and five brothers, Clarence, Stewart and Harry all of Lusk; Scott of Lance Creek and Ray of Smithwick, S.D. His father Stewart Sides, Sr. and one brother Ralph died previously.

Earl E. Sides Dies Suddenly on Vacation Trip; Concluding Rites to Be Held Friday


The many friends of the Earl E. Sides family were saddened by the news of his untimely passing on Sunday morning, March 11th, while vacationing.

Mr. Sides with his wife, Florence, had left this city on March 8th, to go to California to visit with relatives and friends. They had spent the night at Ashfork, Arizona, and were just getting up when he was stricken. Cause of death has been given as a heart condition. At the time of his untimely demise he had attained the age of 56.

Concluding rites will be conducted by Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the Congregational Church of Lusk, Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, from the parlors of the Peet Chapel. At the grave members of the local Order of Elks will officiate.

Bearing the remains to their final resting place in the Lusk Cemetery will be Jim Groves, Bob Hardman, Tom McCullough, Charles Christian, Bob Fancher and Harold Manders. Honorary pallbearers include Pat Miller, Jim Roberts, Otto Vondra, Jess York, Ben Sturman and Ab DeCastro.

Other than his wife, Florence, the deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Martin of Casper and Mrs. Frances Shafer of Burbank, Calif.; three sons, Earl of Sterling, Colo.; James and Bob, both of this city; four sisters, Mrs. Tom McCullough, of Ray So. Dak., Mrs. Robert Hardman and Mrs. Robert Gay both of Lusk; and Mrs. James Groves of Lance Creek; five brothers, Harry, Clarence, and Stewart, all of Lusk; Ray of Smithwick, So. Dak., and Scott of Lance Creek; and his mother, Mrs. Ruby Sides of this city. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph and his father, Stewart Sides, Sr.

Last Rites Held For Earl Sides


Funeral services for Earl Eugene Sides, who died of a heart attack March 11, were held from the Peet Mortuary here Friday afternoon at 2:00 with the Rev. Jacob Nein, Congregational pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery where B.P.O. Elks conducted the final ceremony. Casketbearers were Jim Groves, Bob Hardman, Tom McCullough, Charles Christian, Bob Fancher, and Harold Manders. Honorary pallbearer were Pat Miller, Jim Roberts, Otto Vondra, Jess York, Ben Sturman and Ab DeCastro.

Sides died while on a vacation trip to California to visit relatives. He and Mrs. Sides left Lusk March 8 and had stopped at Ashfork, Ariz. He was stricken with the heart attack as he was getting up in the morning at the cabin where they had stayed over night.

He was the son of Stuart and Ruby Sides, born November 27, 1899 at Kirtley. He attended the first eight grades of school at Kirtley and received his high school education at Harrison, He spent all but three years of his life in and around Lusk. On May 27, 1924 he marrried Florence Fancher. He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1797 of Lusk.

Surviving besides his wife are the five children: Mrs. Harry F. Shafer, Burbank, Calif.; Earl I. Sides, Robert A. Sides and James L. Sides, all of Lusk; and Mrs. Earl J. Martin, Casper. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Ruby Sides of Lusk, and five brothers and four sisters: Clarence M. Sides, Lusk, Harry A. Sides, Lusk; Stewart, Jr., Lance Creek; Scott Sides, Lance Creek; Ray F. Sides. Smithwick, S.D.; Mrs. Thomas P. McCullough, Ray. N. D.; Mrs. Ruben F. Hardman, Lusk; Mrs. James T, Groves, Lance Creek: Mrs. Robert S. Gay, Lusk. There are nine grandchildren. His father and one brother had previously died.
