Willis Ross Stallman

Military graveside services for former Manville and Lusk resident, Willis Ross Stallman, 69, were held Jan. 3, 2003, at the Manville Cemetery with Pastor Jason Playle and the National Guard officiating.

Stallman died Dec. 30, 2002, at the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis.

He was born in Manville on June 11, 1933, the son of Barney Henry and Hattie (Bridge) Stallman. He received his early schooling in a one room country school, Stallman School, and then went to High School at Manville.

He joined the U.S. Army on April 14, 1953, and was honorably discharged on March 30, 1955. He then worked in the oilfields in Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado as a roughneck-derrick hand for approximately 30 years.

As a young man he enjoyed sketching Western scenes, hunting, had a passion for raising and riding horses, and "living free."

Willis is preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Hattie; four brothers, Dale, John, Jim and Clyde; one sister Annie Anderson; and one nephew Gary Anderson.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
