Mary Sturman, 80, Early Resident Here, Dies Sunday

Death came to Mrs. Mary Rebecca Sturman, 80, Nov. 12 at the Spencer Hospital after a lingering illness of several weeks.

Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel Nov. 14 at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. E. R. Osmunson was assisted by the minister from the Torrington Adventist Church.

A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. H. J. Templeton, Miss Phyllis Johns, Rex Yocum, and Donley Unruh sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle". The organ accompaniment was provided by Mrs. Judson P. Watson.

Pallbearers included Glen Erlewine, Z. B. Crinklaw, C. E. Marvin, Menno Kaan, Ralph Larson, and Warren Larson. Burial was made in the family lot in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mary Rebecca Lohr was born April 5, 1870 in New York City, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lohr. Her early life was spent in New York, moving to Schyler, Nebr. with her mother in 1887.

At the age of 22, she came to Lusk, Wyo. to visit a sister, Mrs. Martha Larson and family. The following year on April 27, 1893, she married John C. Sturman. Mr. and Mrs. Sturman made their home on a ranch located five miles east of Lusk, which had been homesteaded by Mr. Sturman.

Nine children were born to this union. Following the death of a daughter, they welcomed an infant grandson, Frank Burnaugh, into the family circle and reared him to manhood.

Mrs. Sturman was a devout christian and for the past 30 years had been an ardent member and supporter of the Adventist Church. For years prior to her illness, she was also a mrmber of the Node Homemakers Club.

She was proceded in death by her husband, John C. Sturman on Feburary 15, 1926; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Burnaugh and Miss Ruth Sturman; a son Mace Sturman; a grandson, her parents and one sister.

Survivors include: three sons, John Sturman and Ben Sturman both of Lusk; and Major Kenneth Sturman of Iowa City, Ia.; three daughters Mrs. Kate Damrow of Fort Laramie, Miss Emma Sturman of Lusk, and Mrs. Orian Conner of Bakersfield, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Malter Larson, and a brother John Lohr, both of Lusk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Major Kenneth Sturman and Mrs. Orian Conner were unable to attend the funeral but both were in Lusk a week ago to visit their mother.
