Last rites for James Tenney In Oklahoma

Last rites for James B. Tenney, former Lusk resident, were held at 2:00 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Riverview Baptist Church at Bixby, Okla., with the Rev. Don Wheat officiating. Mrs. Danna Decker sang two solos, "Like A Rose," and "Jesus, the Son of God." Organ accompaniment was by Miss Linda Barker. Interment was in the Bixby Memorial Cemetery under the arrangements of the Ninde Funeral Home.

James Brown Tenney, son of James Grant and Edna Myrtle Brown Tenney, was born at Manville Feb. 27, 1912. He died early Jan. 23 in St. Francis Hospital of Tulsa, Okla.

At an early age, he moved with his family to Harrison where he received his elementary education. His high school education was received in the Lusk High School, and he was graduated with the class of 1930. Following his schooling he became employed with the Continental Oil Company at Lance Creek.

Sept. 1, 1935, he was married to Dorothy Evelyn DeGroot at Greeley, Colo., and they made their home in Lance Creek for several years. They became the parents of two daughters, Joyce Elaine and Michelle Ann.

In 1941, he became associated with the late Hugo F. Payne in the operation of the Cowboy Bar in Lusk. When the business was sold, the Tenney family moved to Costa Mesa, Calif., where for ten years he was employed at Disneyland. In 1969, Mr. and Mrs. Tenney moved to Arlington, Texas. He worked for the Kerr-McGee Glass Company in Arlington until his retirement in January 1974. In July of the same year the family moved to Bixby, Okla., to make their home.

Mr. Tenney was a member of Riverview Baptist Church of Bixby and a charter member of B.P.O. Elks 1797 of Lusk.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, a daughter Michelle Ann, his parents, one brother, and stepfather Hugo F. Payne. Survivors include a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Boone, and grandchildren Chris and Julie Boone, all of 11540 South 94th E. Ave., Bixby; one sister, Mrs. Don (Alyce) Glover of 801 So. Water St., Salem, Mo.

Out-or-town relatives and friends attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Don Glover of Salem, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Burger of Newton, Kan., Mrs. Phyllis Manning and Diane, and Ralph Guernsey of Arlington, Texas.
