Service for Mrs. James Tenney in Bixby, Oklahoma

Funeral service for Mrs. James B. Tenney, formerly of Lusk, was held at 2:00 p.m. January 21 in the Riverview Baptist Church of Bixby, Okla., with the Rev. Don Wheat officiating. During the service two solos, "Everyday" and "There Is a Place," were sung by Miss Linda Barker. Organ accompaniment was by Mrs. Don Wheat. Interment was in the Bixby Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Tenney had entered St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa on January 2 and died January 18.

Dorothy Evelyn DeGroot was born May 15, 1915, at Arminto, Wyo., the daughter of Carl Everett and Maude Alice (Maxon) DeGroot. The family home was in Shoshoni, Wyo., until September 1925, when they moved to Lusk. She attended local schools and was graduated with the class of 1932 from Lusk High School. She was an operator for the Mountain States Telephone Company in Lusk, and later was employed as a secretary in the Farm Security Administration.

September 1, 1935, she and James B. Tenney were married at Greeley, Colo., and for several years they lived in Lance Creek. They were parents of two daughters, Joyce Elaine and Michelle Ann.

Mr. Tenney became associated in business with the late Hugo F. Payne in the operation of the Cowboy Bar in Lusk. The family made their home here until April 1956 when they moved to Costa Mesa, Calif. Mrs. Tenney was employed in the Bank of America at Cost Mesa. In 1969 they moved to Bixby, Okla.

Mrs. Tenney was a member of the Congregational Church of Lusk and a charter member of Lusk Drove No. 64, B.P.O. Does.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Michelle Ann on July 31, 1972, her parents and two brothers. Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Joyce) Boone, and grandchildren Chris and Julie Boone, all of 11540 South 94th Avenue, Bixby, Okla.; three sisters, Mrs. Ben (Margaret) Sturman, Mrs. Arthur (Ada) Vogel of Lusk, Mrs. Joseph (Phyllis) Manning of Arlington, Texas; three brothers, Everett C. DeGroot, Riverton, Val R. DeGroot, Hot Springs, S.D., John A. DeGroot, Denver.

Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the service were Mrs. Manning and Diane, Miss Pam Wright of Arlington, Texas, Mrs. Vogel, Mr. and Mrs. Don Glover of Salem, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Willie Burger and children, Valorie, Jeff and Mark of Newton, Kan., and Mr. and Mrs. Van A. Peck of Mustang, Okla.
