Lester Updike

Services for Lester Updike, formerly of Lusk, were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1991, at 2 p.m. at the Worden Funeral Chapel in Newcastle by Rev. Tim Buchanan of the Osage Community Bible Church.

Updike died Nov. 19, 1991, at the Crook County Memorial Nursing Home in Sundance. He was born April 23, 1907, in Marion, Kan., to Charles Richard and Hattie Harriet (Roberts) Updike.

The family moved to the Lusk area where he was raised and educated.

In 1926 he moved to Osage, where he operated the Texaco Service Station.

On June 1, 1929, he married Edith Anstice in Lusk. The couple continued to reside in Osage and raised their family there. In May 1991, the couple moved to the Crook County Nursing Home.

Survivors include his wife, Edith, of Sundance; one son, Bill Updike of Beaverton, Ore.; sister, Dorothy Davis of California; sister and brother-in-law Bess and Jennings Ruffing of Lusk; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Burial will be in the Newcastle Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the services.

Memorials to the Crook County Memorial Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family.
