Kenneth Wasserburger

Lusk native Kenneth Wasserburger, 42, was found dead at his Gering home Monday.

He died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Michael Javoronok, deputy county attorney in Scottsbluff County. He said Mr. Wasserburger apparently died Sunday and was found by his wife the next day.

Mr. Wasserburger was a 1956 graduate of Niobrara County High School, attended Chadron State College for two years, served in the military and then returned to Lusk where he was employed by Frontier Lumber Co.

After two years with Frontier, he went to work for Franklin Pharmaceutical in Alliance. From Alliance he was transferred to Denver, where he was regional manager for the firm. Three years ago he was transferred to Gering.

Mr. Wasserburger was born Aug. 1, 1937, to Wilford and Frances Wasserburger on a ranch seven miles north of Harrison. His elementary schooling started in the Harrison school, and when the family moved here in 1944 and he entered Lusk schools.

While growing up here, Kenneth was a paperboy for the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News.

Kenneth was the brother of Jerry and Ralph Wasserburger and Beth Sides and Elaine Kuhn, all of Lusk.

Other survivors are his wife, Virginia, also of Gering; two children, Casey and Cassie, both of Shreveport, La., sisters Doris Thornehill of Austin, Tex., and Margaret Lawler of Sidney, Mont.; and brother Jim of Laramie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosella; and a brother Leo.

A rosary was set for Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Peet Mortuary, and a mass will be said Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church.

A graveside service at Lusk Cemetery will be conducted by members of the Lusk Elks Lodge.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Smith, Orville Lerud, Bob Miller, Dr. Steve Wasserburger, Keith Lemons and Ray Olafson.
