Memorial services were held July 17, 1992, for former Lance Creek resident F. J. "Ozzie" Young, 74, at the Alcova Lake Marina near Casper.

Young died July 9, 1992, at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was born in 1919 in Wilson, Okla., the son of John Lynn Young and Bertha (Johnson) Young. He lived in Oklahoma until his father's death in 1935, when he moved with his uncle and aunt, Cotton and Effie Johnson to work in the oilfields of Wyoming. He lived in a tent at the age of 16 and worked in the Lance Creek field, sending money to his family in Oklahoma.

He served with the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific, China and on many islands. He returned to the Wyoming oilfields in 1946 and became a drilling superintendent.

In 1949, he moved to Canada and married Lise Annette Fontaine in 1950. He became drilling superintendent for Pioneer Drilling in the U. S. in 1959. His family then lived in Arizona while he worked in various locations. He later went to work for Inexco Oil Company in Wyoming in 1974 and retired from that company in 1983.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons; Bruce of Casper, Michael of Morenci, Ariz., James of Sierra Vista, Ariz. and Gary of Houston, Texas; three daughters; Diane and Rebecca of Casper and Karen of Gillette and 10 grandchildren.
