Lewis Gene Bass
Funeral services for Lewis Gene Bass, age 78, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lusk with Rev. Dick Kalber officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mr. Bass died Saturday, Sept. 24, 1994, at the Scottsbluff Nursing Home in Scottsbluff, Neb. He was born July 2, 1916, in Harrison, Neb., the only child of Lewis and Jennie Bass. He lived with his parents on a homestead near Van Tassell where he received his early education at a school near Van Tassell where his mother was the teacher. Later they moved to Lusk where he resumed his education and he graduated from Lusk High School in 1934. From 1935-1938 he attended the University of Wyoming where he majored in Agriculture. He also was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
In June of 1941, he married Ruth Younkin of Lusk and the same year they purchased a cattle ranch twenty miles south of Manville.
Gene's activities have been many. He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Lusk, he belonged to the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and he served on the Board of Directors of the State Farm Bureau for fifteen years. He was the Past Master of Lodge No. 49 AF & AM in Guernsey, a member of the Wyoming Consistory No. 1, AASR, the Shrine Mounted Patrol, a past Patron of Alvada Chapter No. 43 O.E.S., in Guernsey, and served as Worthy Grand Patron of Wyoming O.E.S. from 1966-1967. He also served as Associate Guardian of Bethel No. 34 in Guernsey and was a Past Associate Guardian of Wyoming. In 1979 and 1980, Gene served as Associate Supreme Guardian of the International Order of Job's Daughters.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Bass of Lusk; one son, Lewis Gene Bass Jr., of Lusk; one daughter Jannal Bernard and her husband Daniel of Torrington; two grandchildren, Ty and Tiffany Johnson both of Torrington; one aunt, Mabel Bass; cousins: Genevieve Horner and husband Joe of Scottsbluff, Neb.; Rita Smithy and husband Bill of Chadron, Neb.; Margaret Rogers of Chadron, Neb.; Don Bass and wife Reba of Crawford, Neb.; Dean Bass of DeWitt, Neb., Jim Bass of California, Delwin Bass and wife Janet, Donnalee Bass and husband Glen all of Denver, Colo.; Ferne Wright of San Louis Obiso, Calif.; and Eileen Dooley of Traci, Calif.; plus numerous other nieces, and nephews, relatives and friends.
For those who wish, memorials to the Special Olympics will be appreciated by the family.
Bader Funeral Home of Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
