John Charles Backhaus

John Charles Backhaus of Lusk, died Sunday, July 16, 1989, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

He was born March 26, 1919, the son of John and Etta Christina Backhaus, on a homestead near Burge, Wyo. He attended schools in the Spoon Buttes School District. After moving to Lusk, he worked for Duff Hollon for a number of years and then drove the delivery truck for the McKnight Bakery.

On Feb. 21, 1947, he married Ethel J. Seegrist at Scottsbluff. After being stricken with polio, which crippled him, he took training for radio and T. V. repair and operated Plains Service in the old Kuhn Equipment Building. Several years later, he moved his shop to his home, operating it there until he opened T & J Salvage. He retired from business in 1983. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; his parents; one brother, Earl; and one sister, Irma May.

He is survived by one brother, Jim of Denver, Colo.; and one sister, Betty Randall of Cedaredge, Colo. He is also survived by five stepchildren, numerous grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk. Interment will be in the Crawford Cemetery. Memorials to the family would be appreciated.
