Reqium Mass for Mrs. Florence Updike, a former resident of Lusk, was celebrated at 9:00 a.m. September 20 in Carmel Mission Basilica, Carmel, Calif. Burial was in the Catholic section of Mission Memorial Park. Mrs. Updike died September 17, in San Francisco following an extended illness.

She was born June 1, 1910 in Lusk, the daughter of Daniel and Florence Goddard. She married Benjamin Updike in Douglas in 1930 and they were the parents of three children. The family moved to California in 1941, moving to Carmel in 1943. Mrs. Updike was employed at Kip's Food Center. She was a member of Carmel Mission parish and active in many phases of church work.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. William Conlan of Carmel and Mrs. Walter Feeney of Soledad; a son Robert G. Updike of Carmel; eight grandchildren and a nephew, John Goddard of Lusk.

Mrs. Updike, Former Resident Dies in Calif.


Mrs. Bennie Updike of Carmel, Calif., a former Lusk resident, died of a heart attack in the Carmel hospital Friday. Mrs. Updike had had two attacks earlier Friday and had been taken to the hospital before suffering the third and fatal attack.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Updike, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Goddard, pioneer residents, was born and reared in Lusk.
