R.O. Bump Dies in Lusk Saturday
R. 0. Bump. 79, died Saturday at the Spencer Hospital following an Illness of six weeks. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Peet Chapel with Rev. Frank Bozart, pastor at the Open Bible Church, officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. A.F. DeCastro sang "There Are No Disappointments in Heaven" and "Rock of Ages". Mrs. J.P. Watson was organist.
Casket bearers were Charles Lund, Jr., Ray Freeman, Don Paisley, Amund Thurston, David Lorenzen and Clifford Cox.
Robert Otis Bump, pioneer resident of Wyoming, was born in Quincy, Ill. March 11, 1877. As a young boy he moved with his parents to Oklahoma and lived there until about 1899 when he with the Art Blair family moved to Lusk.
In the early days he worked as a cowboy for the late Oliver Hanson. Henry Gray, Tom Bell, Jake Mill and other cattle companies.
On October 15, 1907 he married Mary E. Anderson at Sturgis, S.D., returning to Lusk where they have since made their home. He retired from active ranching and moved to Lusk about 16 years ago. He was initiated into Custer Lodge No. 21of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1906 and on July 14, 1956 was presented the 50-year life-time pin. He was also a past Grand of this lodge.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Meda E. Teter and Emma J. Teter of Hitchinson, Kan.; and one son, Robert E. of Casper; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter. There are two brothers, Walter E. of Miami, Okla. and Donald of Kansas: one sister, Ona Mae of California. His parents, five brothers and two sisters previously died.
