Funeral Rites Held for Merlin Barnes
Funeral rites were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Peet Chapel for Merlin D. Barnes, County resident for 43 years, who died July 5 at 2:30 p.m. at his home in Lusk following an extended illness.
The Rev. Clyde E. Hampton officiated at the funeral services which were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial was made in the Lusk cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: George Gibson, Ralph Olinger, Chuck Vaughan, C. E. Marvin, Sam Thomas and Amend Thurston.
Merlin Deronda Barnes was born Feb. 25, 1882 in Allison, Ia. the son of Moses Barnes and Eva Nichols Barnes. Forty-three years ago he came to Niobrara County. He was in the hardware business but was a retired merchant at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Myrtle Barnes, of this city.
