Zane E. Newsom

Funeral services for Zane E. Newsom, 68, were held Sept. 24 at the Berean Bible Church with Pastor John Wilhelm officiating. Burial followed in the Valley View Cemetery. Zane died at his home on Sept. 20, 2007. A memorial has been established to the India Project through the Berean Church.

Zane was born Oct. 4, 1938 in Los Angeles, the son of Wilber and Mildred (McKibbin) Newsom. He grew up and received his education in California graduating from Corcoran High School. He attended one year of college in California before starting work for Rocketdyne.

He married Florence Marie Lanham in Corcoran on Jan. 1, 1960 and they lived in California and had four children. He worked as a computer programmer handling data for the space program at Edwards Air Force Base. They moved to Kansas City, Mo. and he worked for TWA. They then moved to Juneau, Alaska, where he worked as a computer programmer for the state of Alaska and they had one more child. They moved to a village in Alaska and he became a commercial fisherman for five years before moving to Astoria, Ore. where he worked as a mechanic. They moved to Rock Springs and he worked as a mechanic at the Jim Bridger Power Plant. Zane retired there and moved to LaBarge where he started ranching, which continued through several moves before coming to Torrington.

Zane enjoyed hunting, shooting, and reading. He was a member of the Berean Bible Church and the National Rifle Association.

Zane is survived by his wife Marie of Torrington; two sons, Michael Newsom and his wife Yvonne of Cheyenne and Marc Newsom and his wife Stephanie of Green River; two daughters, Denise Raetz and her husband Randy of Lusk and Amanda Newsom of Denver; two sisters, Donna Hoppert of Atascadero, Calif. and Darlene Vernon of Corcoran; and five grandsons, Daniel Raetz, Phillip Newsom, Zane Newsom, Luke Newsom and Calvin Newsom. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Tracy Diane Newsom.
