Last Rites Held Wed. for Carl Dean

Carl William Dean was born March 9, 1937 in Lusk, the only child of Carl and Ella Dean of Node, Wyo.

As he grew through boyhood on his parents’ ranch east of Node, he also grew into the hearts of his many acquaintances, being always ready to help the less fortunate.

He attended school at Node and when a seventh grader he took the state examinations and was graded on an eighth grade level passing with the highest scholastic average in the county. It was then deemed feasible to promote him to the ninth grade which he carried with highest honors. His unusual intellectual ability and memory of facts obtained from his wide reading, which was mostly of adult level, brought many interesting reports to class.

Carl was an ardent baseball fan and interested in other athletics. He was also an active member of the Up and Coming 4-H Club.

On October 18th he became violently ill and was taken to the Spencer Hospital where he was under the constant care of Dr. Reckling. Dr. Williams, a child specialist of Denver, was called in consultation. Carl’s condition remained gravely serious for some time. He slowly improved and was planning to return home for Thanksgiving, but became worse on Saturday and passed away suddenly Sunday evening, Nov 19 of cardiac thrombosis.

Carl was a loving son and a good Christian, being a member of St. Leo’s Church of Lusk.

Rosary services conducted by Father Joseph J. Szynal of Harrison were held at the Peet Mortuary Tuesday evening at 7.30. Final services were held at St. Leo’s Church Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock, when a requiem mass was offered by Father Szynal. During the services the following hymns were sung: "Thou Art Our Hope, Dear Sacred Heart," by George Gibson; "Ave Maria." by Dick Oates, The young people’s choir sang "God’s Holy Will" and "O’Paradise." Mrs. Henry Wasserburger, aunt of the deceased, accompanied at the organ. Father Szynal’s sermon, "Christian Life and Eternal Happiness," was eloquent and seemed as a benediction. The large crowds which were in attendance at both services denoted the esteem in which Carl was held.

Pallbearers, all cousins of Carl, were Richard Reed, Lewis Beyers, Henry Wasserburger, Billy Wasserburger, Jack Farrington, Richard Pfister, and Jim Pfister.

Burial was in the family plot of the Lusk Cemetery.

Carl was preceded in death by his father, Carl W, Dean, Sr., on Oct. 28, 1947.

He leaves to mourn his mother, Mrs. Ella Dean, and the following near relatives: Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Joy and daughter, Kaycee, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Anderson and son, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wasserburger and children, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Olinger and children, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Pfister and children of Hat Creek, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Reed and son, Manville, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beyers and son, Lusk; Fred Dean, Valentine, and Vincent Pfister, Node; Richard Pfister and children, Edgemont, S.D; Mr. and Mrs. John Pfister, Sheridan, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pfister and daughter, Billings, Mont.
