Mrs. Julia Black Dies Here Sat.
Mrs. Julia Black, 76, of Lusk died Saturday in the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital following injuries received at her ranch two weeks prior. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from Peet Chapel with Rev. Jacob Nein officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden". Mr. J. P. Watson was organist.
Active pallbearers were Raymond Rumney, Edmond Cook, Billy Hammill, Jas. Hammill, Ben Hammill and Dick Hammill. Honorary pallbearers were Ray DeGering, Chris Christensen, Frank Johnston, Jim Reed, Jim Hammill, Ted Rumney, Lee Shrum and R. Hurtt.
Julia L. Black was born in Clairmont, Mo., February 12, 1882. The daughter of Benjamin and Emaline Baxter. She moved with her parents to Holbrook, Nebr. in 1886 where she grew to womanhood.
She taught two years in rural schools near Akron, Colo. September 2, 1905 she married Hugh C. Black and they made their home in Akron until 1918. They homesteaded in the northern part of Niobrara County in 1919 where she lived until moving to Lusk seven years ago.
She was a life member of the Martha Washington Chapter, Order of Eastern Star of Akron, treasurer of the Silver Cliff Chapter of War Mothers, a member of the Congregational Church and the Circle.
Survivors include eleven children, six sons and five daughters; Mary Wood, Sacramento, Calif.; Hugh Black, Harlowton, Mont.; Robert Black, Lusk; Elizabeth Beck, Blackduck, Minn.; Geneve Hammill, Edgemont; Gladys Rumney, Edgemont; Julia Cook, Hat Creek; James Black, Great Falls, Mont.; Leroy Black, Bright; Charles Black, Blanding, Utah; and Arthur Black, Hat Creek.
There are also 26 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Baxter, Curtis, Nebr., John Baxter, Holbrook, Nebr., and two sisters, Cora Marris, McCook, Nebr., and Iva Rutherford, Hendley, Nebr.
