W.D. Wasserburger dies Monday

W. D. Wasserburger, 80, resident of Lusk since 1943, died Monday at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital. Rosary will be recited this Wednesday at 8:00 at the Peet Chapel, and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning with The Rev. Terrence McGovern officiating. Wieten-Dupes Post of the American Legion will conduct military honors at the graveside.

Pallbearers will be Robert Baribeau, Joe Pfister, Paul Pfister, Don Sharon, Jerry Hollon and Victor Heckman.

The suggests memorials be made to the Niobrara Nursing home.

Wilford Dennis Wasserburger was born June 20, 1895, the son of Jacob and Helen Garhart Wasserburger in Edgemont, S.D., and attended school in South Dakota. He and Frances Konrath were married September 6, 1922. They moved to a ranch at Harrison in 1932 and to Lusk in September of 1943. He was a carpenter working at Lance Creek from 1943 to 1946 and since then he has worked in Lusk.

Mr. Wasserburger was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, a veteran of World War I and was a member of Wieten-Dupes Post of the American Legion.

He is survived by four sons, Jerry and Ralph of Lusk, James, Cheyenne, and Kenneth, Denver; four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Lawler, Sidney, Mont., Mrs. Doris Thornhill, Austin, Tex., Mrs. Elaine Kuhn and Mrs. Beth Sides of Lusk; one brother, Edward of Hot Springs, S.D., twin sisters, Florentine Wasserburger, Hot Springs, S.D., and Dorothy Mader, Custer, S.D., 23 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances in 1971, a son Leo, a daughter Rosella and one brother Louis.
