Lloyd Elmer Bowman

Lloyd Elmer Bowman passed away on October 21, 1998 in Escondido, Calif. of complications resulting from severe pneumonia. He was 86 years old. Born on February 9, 1912 in Broken Bow, Nebr., Lloyd grew up on the high plains of eastern Wyoming, spending most of his youth in Lusk, Niobrara County.

After attending the University of Wyoming, Lloyd worked as an engineer and supervisor for the Bureau of Reclamation for 38 years. Upon retirement, he and Dorothy moved to Escondido, where they lived for 24 years between travels to Alaska, New Orleans, the Caribbean, Utah, Wyoming and Canada.

Lloyd was a man in constant motion until he finally stopped this fall.

His wife, Dorothy, was his biggest fan and part of an inspirational marriage.

His life spanned the century, beginning in a sod house built by his homesteading parents, Claude and Louise, and ending, surrounded by family and friends, in a modern hospital far from the Wyoming prairie.

What happened in between was an existence bound by humor, generosity and kindness unsurpassed. To us, Lloyd meant everything. We miss Lloyd but we will never forget him. Our family will bury Lloyd next spring, at his request, in Lusk, Wyo., his childhood home.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Intveen Bowman, 84, of Escondido, Calif.; his daughter, Linda Bowman Haack, 57, of Park City, Utah; and his grandsons, Matthew William Klingle, 31, of Seattle, Wash. and David Bruce Klingle, 27, of St. Petersburg, Fla.
