Roy Boyles Dies of Heart Attack in Lusk Sunday

Roy Boyles, 74, a resident of this area for 63 years, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Sunday.

He was stricken about noon while doing carpenter work at his Lusk home and was rushed to the hospital. He died about 15 minutes after arriving at the hospital.

Funeral services are being held from the Peet Chapel at 2:00 p.m. today, with the Rev. Frank Bozart officiating. Al Davenport, Dan Christian, Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Emerson Bonner are singing, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages". Mrs. J. P. Watson is organist. Casket bearers are: Harlan Lohr, Ted Lohr, John Hammond, Bob Fancher, Harry Sides, Frank Hansen.

Mr. Boyles is the third member of his family to die in recent months. His brother, Hill Boyles died November 4, 1960 and his sister, Mrs. Orpha Boyles Christian died December 22, 1960.

Burial is in the Lusk Cemetery.


Melvin Le Roy Boyles, son of George and Mary Jane Shatto Boyles, was born at Audubon, Iowa, April 13, 1886. In 1898, following his father's death, Mr. Boyles at the age of 13 came west in a covered wagon with his mother and eight brothers and sisters. The family homesteaded in the Kirtley area. When a young man Mr. Boyles took his own homestead a few miles southeast of Kirtley.

In October 1907 he and Ina Hamlin were married. They were the parents of two children, Oscar of Casper and Klea of Washington. Since 1946, when he disposed of his ranch holding, he has followed his profession as a carpenter in Lusk.

Surviving besides his children are: one sister, Mrs. Goldie Church of Casper; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Connie Jean Hand, Carl, Claudine and Barbara Bergeman, Carol Ann, Kay Marie and Tommy Boyles; seven great grandchildren.
