Newcastle Man Dies Enroute to Spencer Hospital

Death overtook the occupant of an ambulance being rushed from Newcastle to the Spencer Hospital in Lusk, Tuesday night.

A. L. Weaver, insurance and real estate man of Newcastle, Wyo., underwent major surgery in the Newcastle hospital last Thursday and apparently was making satisfactory recovery when he took a decided turn for the worse on Tuesday. His doctor was out of town and could not be reached, so Dr. W. E. Reckling was called by telephone, but he had a number of seriously ill patients in the hospital, and did not feel that he should leave them, as it was storning badly, and the trip to Newcastle and return would take many hours. So it was decided that the Sedgwick ambulance in Newcastle was to bring the sick man to Lusk and Dr. Reckling would meet them at the Mule Creek Y.

Nick Kaan volunteered to drive Dr. Reckling's car, as it appeared that one was likely to have trouble on the highway, due to the high wind and snow, which made visibility very poor.

They left Lusk about 6:30 p.m. and met the ambulance as planned. Mr. Weaver was accompanied by a nurse, but was in such a critical condition that he died about the time the party reached Hat Creek.

The remains were taken to the Peet Mortuary and the next day the Sedgwick ambulance returned them to his home.

Mr. Weaver was 67 years of age and is survived by his wife and a son and daughter.
