Marguerite "Maggie" Carroll Backer
Maggie Carroll came into this world in Harrison, Nebraska in May of 1916. She was a real Corker. The second of three children, she was the daughter of James and Mary Carroll. Growing up in Lusk, Wyoming, she met and married the love of her life, William "Bill" Backer on August 24, 1941.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Rupkey (Rick Sr.); grandchildren, Rick Rupkey II (Caroline), Krista Rupkey Horn (Ryan), Katie Rupkey Kobylanski (Keith), Steve Yakaitis, Lisa Yakaitis Malone (Dave), Dia Linhares Madden (Todd), Shawn Linhares and six great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were brothers, Herbert "Red" Carroll, David Carroll; husband of 50 years, Bill Backer and daughters, Carroll Backer Yakaitis (Ron), and Cynthia Backer Linhares. She came to live in Tucson shortly after Bill's retirement from the Navy in 1953. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who touched the lives of family and friends in a tender, loving way. Through the years in Tucson, she was an active member of Faith, Fountain of Life and Tanque Verde Lutheran Churches. A Memorial Service was held in Tanque Verde Lutheran (8625 E. Tanque Verde Rd.) on Friday, Feruary 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Special thanks to Rose Muzzy, Amy and staff at Five Star care giving facility and Casa de la Luz hospice.
