Harry Olinger Killed In Texas Auto Crash
Thon Book 4
Harry J. Olinger, 35, was killed in a car accident Tuesday night at 11:30 near his home at Bishop, Texas. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph I. Olinger of Lusk and was born in Lusk and grew to young manhood here. At the present time he was superintendent of the Sanolin Gas Plant at Bishop, Texas, a short distance from Corpus Christi.
According to a telephone message received by his parents here, he had received an emergency call saying there was a fire at the Gas Plant and in his haste to get to the plant it is understood that in some way he went into the ditch and received head injuries from which he died almost instantly.
Mr. and Mrs. Olinger left about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday for Denver from which point they planned to take a plane to Texas.
Funeral arrangements are indefinite until they consult with their son's wife.
Harry James Olinger was born at Lusk August 9, 1913. He was a graduate of Lusk High School with the class of 1931 and received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Wyoming in 1936. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and of the Masonic Lodge of Newcastle where he lived after his graduation from the University.
For the past ten years he has been associated with the oil industry and helped to install the gas plant at Lance Creek when it was built. He was connected with the Continental Oil Company until enlisting in the U. S. Navy during World War II where he served in the Mediterranean Theatre. When he received his discharge after the close of the war, he held the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade.
He then entered the employ of the Stanolin Oil Company living in Electra, Texas; Tulsa, Okla., and moved to Bishop the past spring.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Howard, and a daughter, Nancy.
A more complete account of the accident and of his life will be published in next week's Herald.
