R. Oliver Butler

Military services for R. Oliver Butler, 69, were June 24 at the Lusk Cemetery. Memorials are to the National Kidney Foundation.

He died June 21, 1997, at the Columbia Riverton Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Lusk, to Elias Howe Butler and Reta (Miller) Butler.

He grew up on a family-owned homestead north of Lance Creek. He graduated from Campbell County Hig School in Gillette in 1945. He married Julie Haskin Sept. 25, 1945.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in Korea.

After his discharge from the Army, he worked on a farm north of Keeline until 1978, when he moved to Jeffrey City working for Pathfinder mine.

Retiring due to ill health in 1991, he then moved to Riverton where he lived until hs death.

He was a member of the Riverton Christian Church.

He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and especially elk hunting with his sons, grandsons, long-time friend Gene Harris and anyone else who wanted to go along for the fun.

Survivors include his wife of Riverton, sons Jack and Randall, both of Ranchester; daughters Joy Lynn Butler-Holen and Retha Butler Roberts, both of Riverton; 12 grandsons; four granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; sister Ruth Reed of Lander; brother Murray Butler of Keeline; duaghters-in-law Betty Butler and Reda Butler, both of Ranchester; and son-in-law Dale Holen of Riverton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
