Funeral Notice - Maxine Miller

Maxine Miller, age 82, formerly of the Manville and Lusk area, passed away on Monday in Casper. A funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 at the Pier Funeral Home in Lusk. Interment will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to the Niobrara Alumni Association or the Elks Scholarship Fund.

Funeral services for Maxine Miller, 82, were held in Lusk at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Pier Funeral Home, with Pastor Brent Venable of the Manville Community Alliance Church officiating. There was also a memorial service by Lusk DOES Drove #64. Maxine died Jan. 11, 2010 at the Life Care Center of Casper, Wyo.

Maxine was born August 31, 1927 in Manville, Wyo. to Rueben and Mable Johnson. She was reared and educated in the Manville area, and graduated from the Manville High School in 1946. She married Lloyd H. Miller on Nov. 27, 1946. They lived in the Lance Creek and Manville area for most of their married life. They had four children: Harold, Gary, Gerry, and Gloria.

Maxine was a cook for the school district for many years and later owned and operated the Ranger Café. She was a member of the Manville Homemakers, the Lusk VFW, DOES Drove #64, and was one of the founding members of the Niobrara Alumni Association. She served on the original Alumni Board with Carol Holtz, Dale Jordan, Virginia Kant, Everett Kilmer, and Villa Rea.

In the late nineties, Maxine moved to Sheridan to be near her daughter, Gloria. She later moved to Douglas, where she lived until her health required that she move into the Life Care Center of Casper.

She was preceded in death by an infant son Gerry, her parents, husband Lloyd, a sister Florence Lancster, and three brothers, Wayne, Robert, and Donald Johnson.

She is survived by her children: Harold and Vickie Miller of Lance Creek, Gary and Merry Miller of Douglas, and Gloria and Rick Buell of Gillette; as well as her seven grandchildren: Traci Gorton, Jeff Miller, Travis Miller, Toy Buell, Miles Miller, Levi Miller, and Tyrel Miller; and eleven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Niobrara Alumni Association Scholarship Fund or the Lusk Elk’s Lodge #1797 Scholarship Fund, would be appreciated by the family.

Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
