Marvin Alvord Thayer
A funeral service for Marvin Alvord Thayer, 64, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Wheatland, Wyo., with Pastor Skip Perry officiating.
He died Monday, March 29, 2010, at his home near Wheatland.
Marvin was born Oct. 30, 1945, in Lusk, Wyoming, the son of Alvord M. and Hattie W. (Smith) Thayer. He was reared on the family ranch at Harrison, Nebraska and graduated from Sioux County High School in 1963. He earned an industrial arts degree in 1968 from Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska. His first teaching job was at Red Willow Valley High School in Nebraska followed by construction work around Harrison. From 1979 - 1986, he taught in Morrill, Nebraska; at St. Joseph’s Children’s Home in Torrington from 1986-1988; a few years of construction work; and, then to Wheatland in 1994 where he taught until the time of his death. Marvin married Karen K. Edwards on July 31, 1982, in Morrill, Nebraska. He was a member of Pheasants Forever; and, enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and tinkering.
Survivors include his wife, Karen of Wheatland; two children, Kaela (Cameron) Bretz of Casper, Wyo. and Colt Thayer of Wheatland; two sisters, Melvina (Gerald) Dillman of Mitchell, Neb. and JoyDean (Gordon) Niswender of Windsor, Colo.; a twin brother, Melvin (Chris) Thayer of Lusk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Larry Balzan, Spike Eberspecher, Dave Hatten, Levi Mickelsen, Bob Catchpole, Ron Halley, Jim Woodall, Kelly Simonton, Ron Miller, Ronald Grote, Jim Krein, Rodney Lockhorn, Clark Noble, and Ron Estes.
Memorials to the Marvin A. Thayer Memorial Fund in care of First State Bank, P.O. Box 39, Wheatland, WY 82201-0039 would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman Funeral Homes - Platte Chapel of Wheatland.
