Charles Vincent Lee Jr.

Charles Vincent Lee Jr., 85, of Fort Collins, CO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 21, 2009. Charles was born on June, 17, 1923, the son of the late Elizabeth and Charles Lee and raised in Colorado and Wyoming. In 1941, he graduated from Manville, High School in Wyo. Charles served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater with the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

On August 31, 1947, he married Mary Held in Lusk, Wyo. Charles graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum geology. He worked as a geologist for the Continental Oil Co. starting in 1950 and his work took him to Wyoming, New Mexico, California and Colorado. In 1980 he started his own company, Alta Petroleum in Denver. He retired to Fort Collins in 1988. Charles’ marriage to Mary lasted 56 years, until her death on June 25, 2003.

Charles was a fisherman, hunter, gardener, photographer, woodworker and avid reader. A football fan, he rooted for the Denver Broncos and Wyoming Cowboys.

He is survived by three daughters, Melanie Sikes of Fort Collins, CO, Jennifer Lee of Albuquerque, N.M., and Charlotte Lee-Nicholson of Lakewood, CO; two brothers, George Lee and Vernon Lee; two sisters, Margaret Lee and JoAnn Rasmussen, all of Wyoming; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
