Obituary of Mary Mangels Is Published
Mary Matilda Mangels was born in Elmsborn, Holstein, Germany, June 4, 1862, and died at her home in Mapleton, Iowa, May 14, 1954, at the age of nearly 92.
In 1883 she was married to V. P. Owens, and in July of that year they came to the United States and settled in Crawford county, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Owens resided on farms in Crawford and Monona counties until 1920 when they moved to Mapleton where she spent the remaining years of her life. Mr. Owens died in 1933.
Mrs. Owens was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany and joined St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Mapleton. She was affliated with the Women's Guild of that church and was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary.
Surviving are her six sons, Henry and Otto of Los Angeles, Andrew and Peter of Lusk, Gus of Soldier, Iowa, and Hugo of Mapleton; two daughters, Mrs. Wm. (Amanda) Intveen of Glenrock and formerly of Lusk, and Mrs. Albert (Elsie) Ketelsen of Mapleton; 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Three daughters previously died, two in infancy, and Mrs. Otto (Marie) Klemke in 1949.
Funeral srvices were held at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church May 18 with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery near Mapleton.
