Oscar Ward, Pioneer Who Came to Lusk in Youth, Passes Away

Had Been Resident of Casper Since 1915, But Spent Early Youth On Ranches Here

Oscar F. Ward, 66, who came to the vicinity of Lusk as a youth, died at Casper early this week, at his home in Midwest Heights.

Mr. Ward was born in New York, but came to Lusk when only a boy. He trailed cattle from Texas to Montana in the early days. He was fond of recalling a picture by C. M. Russell, depicting a bronco jumping into a chuck wagon, and often told of a similar experience which happened to him.

He met and married Ida Schwartz of Harrison, Neb., in 1894, and they came to Lusk to make their home.

Later he moved back to harrison, serving as city marshall there for several years, and was afterward elected sheriff of Sioux County for eight years.

He went to Casper in 1915 and was employed by the Standard Oil Co.

He is survived by his widow; a son, Herbert O. Ward; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth E. Brewer; and a granddaughter, Mary Lou Ward, all of Casper.
